Ijen Crater is under the authority of Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Jawa Timur (BBKSDA, The Conservation Office of Natural Resources in East Java). This office would like to respond positively feedbacks from other stakeholders regarding tourism development in Ijen Crater. Since blue flame of Ijen got exposed wide and far, more people are getting curious to watch it on the spot. Consequently, visitors number raised. During peak holiday season in 2018, you may found 2,000 people in a day.
To manage visitor number wisely as well as to conserve the nature, the authority of Ijen did a breakthrough action recently. They’re developing Ijen Blue Fire Apps that will serve entrance ticket to Ijen by online reservation. You can download it from Google Play Market. Through this apps, the visitor number to Ijen might be limited to a certain amount according to the carrying capacity of the nature. Alternatively, this online ticket can be booked through the official website of BBKSDA East Java. Another new policy is Ijen Crater closure every Friday on the first week of each month. This policy is effective in 2019.
During transition period, the authority of Ijen provides 100 offline tickets everyday until March 2019. These tickets can be bought at the entrance post. This is particularly for any visitors who haven’t heard about this new policy.
So, if you’ve booked a tour to Ijen through an agent, please make sure your agent has booked the entrance ticket for you. If you’re going to arrange your trip yourself, you can download the Ijen Blue Fire Apps and start booking your ticket.
